EU rules curb unsold textiles waste
Measures to prevent destruction of unsold clothing and shoes.
The European Commission adopted new measures under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation to prevent the destruction of unsold apparel, clothing, accessories and footwear. The rules aim to cut waste, reduce environmental impact, and boost circularity by encouraging resale, remanufacturing, donations, or reuse. Large companies must disclose information on discarded unsold products, with a ban on destruction phased in from 2026 and extended to medium-sized firms by 2030.
